From 1977 to 1981, Carter spent the last 19 months in hospice care at his Georgia home. Despite his health challenges, his grandson Jason shared that Carter remains “emotionally engaged, laughing, and loving.”

Celebrations in his hometown, Plains, Georgia, included a naturalization ceremon. This ceremony was for 100 new U.S. citizens. Also, it involved a military flyover featuring F-18 jets.

Earlier this month, a star-studded concert in Atlanta celebrated Carter’s milestone. Raising over $1.2 million for The Carter Center, the event featured heartfelt tributes and performances from several musical acts. 

Carter, unable to attend, expressed his gratitude, calling it an “incredible evening.”

Despite not attending the concert, Jimmy Carter made a rare public appearance in November 2023 at his wife Rosalynn’s memorial service. Hence, Rosalynn Carter passed away at the age of 96.
